And I remember ever more clearly , a deeper, more profound sense of responsibility that each of us has to protect and nurture our environment — safeguarding the gifts it bestows upon us, our communities, and the generations to come.”

Safeguarding the million-year heritage of Pahang

Pahang is home to one of the world’s oldest rainforests that has bustled with life for more than 130 million years. Such unique and rare genomes must be protected and preserved, even as the nation embraces development and pursues urbanisation. Driven by duty and the burden of protecting this heritage, HRH commissioned the PRP Foundation and the Habitat Foundation to develop a plan that identifies key interventions targeted at keeping Pahang’s biodiversity and ecosystems safe, concurrently improving the lives of the communities in and around the rainforests.

“A Greenprint for Conservation & Sustainability” was created, underlining six strategic actions:

Protect the forest and wildlife, strengthen protected areas, restore connectivity

Safeguard highland forests and water catchment areas

Protect limestone caves and karst landscapes

Conserve wetland ecosystems

Outline the role of community-conserved areas

Secure new sources of revenue for the state

Enggang to protect nature

Enggang’s role is to drive the stewardship of Pahang’s precious biodiversity through public-private partnerships. Our business model promotes economic growth while preserving the ecosystems and uplifting local communities, ensuring the inheritance of Pahang’s diverse species and varied landscapes is preserved for future generations.

Enggang has commenced its journey towards the protection of Pahang’s biodiversity through three key initiatives – the Pahang Peatland Restoration Project, Al Sultan Abdullah Royal Tiger Reserve and the syntropic agriculture pilot in Jubli Perak Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Agricultural Park.

Through these projects, Enggang tackles threats to the ecosystems and protects the state’s forests, communities and endangered species. We aim to achieve tangible outcomes in the following areas:
